Guide to Winter Garden
Winter Garden is located just 14 miles west of Orlando, within western Orange County, Florida. Carrying a sense of nostalgia, you can find theme parks that are known primarily for their old Florida style and charm and is one of the best places to visit in Central Florida. Established by settlers in the 1850s, you would have found small farms that lined the southern shore of Lake Apopka. Its economy was dependent on citrus and vegetable produce, which became further bolstered when the Orange Belt Railroad was completed and passed through the area. In 1900, a small commercial locality appeared on Plant Street, which influenced the slow emergence of residential neighborhoods not long after.
The historic downtown, listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, is a favorite destination. There are many shops and restaurants located along the award-winning West Orange Trail, which is a part of the 250-mile Coast to Coast (C2C) Connector Trail across Central Florida. If you are a cycling enthusiast, it does not get any better than this!
Winter Garden is aptly referred to as the cultural capital of West Orange County, you can find live performances at the Garden Theatre. Live music fills the downtown air on weekends and stunning pieces of visual art are available for your pleasure at the SoBo Art Gallery. Saturdays are bustling with the award-winning Winter Garden Farmers’ Market, offering a wide selection of locally grown produce and baked goods, homemade soaps, and fresh flowers from vendors, as well as live entertainment each week!
Winter Garden is nestled alongside the beautiful Lake Apopka and is home to more than 40,000 residents. It embodies a wealth of many historical and natural assets. Winter Garden’s location and history affords its community a reputation that is like no other. Come experience the charm of this little city yourself!
